Sparta's Junior Police Academy Available For County Kids This Week
Programming includes substance abuse dangers during three-day course.

As the summer winds down the learning heats up, and the Sparta Police Athletic League building is one place to start.
Sponsored in part by the Sparta Police Youth Division, Sparta Police Athletic League and Sparta Township Police Department, Sussex County children in grades five and up can spend three days this week taking part in the Junior Police Academy.
The event is open to all Sussex County children in fifth grade and above for $50 per family. The academy runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 through Friday, Aug. 22.

“The programming provided will focus specifically on choices that our children make as it pertains to drugs and alcohol,” Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said in a statement. “Some of the programs are interactive and some are very blunt and straight forward as it pertains to the wrong choices that are made.”
Programming is provided by members of local law enforcement agencies; the Center of Prevention and Counseling in Newton; counselors and clients from DAYTOP New Jersey and other special guests.
