Start a new career as a Pharmacy Technician

The Demand for Pharmacy Technicians Continues to Grow. Evening Classes Begin February 27th, Register Today!

Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies under the direction of a pharmacist. Their main responsibility is filling prescriptions according to doctors’ orders. They prepare medications for dispensing to patients. This generally includes retrieving drugs in the correct dosage form and strength, measuring the appropriate amount of drug and producing a prescription label. Depending upon the practice setting, a Pharmacy Technician is also involved in the admixture of drugs for intravenous use.

Pharmacy Technicians – Employment & Education
Pharmacy Technicians may work in retail pharmacies, mail order pharmacies, home infusion pharmacies, long term care facilities, hospitals, clinics, pharmacy benefit managers and large industrial complexes. The demand for Pharmacy Technicians continues to grow. This high demand is the result of the constant availability of new drugs, the national shortage of registered pharmacists, the establishment of certified pharmacy technicians and the aging population. With Pharmacy Technician Certification you can continue to expand your skills in Sterile Prep and Compounding, increasing your career options.

Educational Requirements
To get started, a high school diploma or HSE (formerly GED) is required to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. Anyone with a high school degree or HSE (formerly GED) must take the Placement Test prior to completing registration. Placement Testing for reading comprehension and basic math is on a walk-in basis. Check the Placement Testing Schedule. A photo ID is required to take the Placement Test. Let us know if you need a study packet to refresh your math skills!
