Teacher Raises $140K for Pediatric Cancer

And this year, Hopatcong's Carolyn Barrett helped Hudson Maxim School pull in more than $4,000.

Just call Carolyn Barrett "The $140,000 Woman."

The Hopatcong teacher has helped students raise more than $143,000 for the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital over the last 16 years.

On Monday, the district announced a $4,102 donation to the hospital, raised via the St. Jude's Hospital Math-a-Thon.

Hudson Maxim School Principal Tracey Hensz said she was thankful for Barrett's efforts.

"It takes a lot of hard work and organizing on her part," Hensz said, "and I appreciate all your efforts."

Barrett said she enjoyed the work.

"It's a very worthwhile program," she said. "There were some years where we raised $14,000, back when we had 10 first grades and 10 kindergarten (classes) and we were busting at the seams at Hudson Maxim. Now we raised a little over $4,000, but that's still wonderful."

Barrett said the $4,000 would be enough to pay for four days' worth of a child's chemotherapy treatments.

George was asked how he felt after raising so much money.

"Good!" he said.

As for Cutler?

"Happy!" she said.
