Off With Their Heads: 12 Taxidermy Animals Stolen From Hopatcong Home, Cops Say

Summer home's decor taken during winter months, police report.

Hopatcong Police are searching for someone accused of breaking into a borough home and stealing a dozen stuffed animal heads.

Police responded to a house used as a summer home on West River Styx Road on Saturday, March 28 for a report of theft, Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.

The homeowner stated she had not been to the home since the end of last summer, and thought she locked up the residence, Kmetz said.

She reported that 12 taxidermy heads, consisting of elk, moose, deer, Canadian goose, beaver, impala and reindeer were all taken, Kmetz said. The reported value of all 12 was approximately $4,800, but it is not known how many of each animal made up the full lot.
