Sparta woman, 26, is mentally ill, according to parents.

A Sparta woman has been charged with purposely setting fire to her parents’ home on Fox Trail Road while they were out for the evening more than two months ago.

Lindsay Kiensicki, 26, who suffered burns to her head, face and arms, has been charged with arson, according to njherald.com. The woman, who is mentally ill the report said, allegedly used gasoline to set fire to the home.

Kiensicki was left disfigured as a result of the blaze, the report said. Sparta Sgt. John-Paul Beebe deemed the fire suspicious when it left the home inhabitable on Feb. 28.

When police and firefighters arrived, they found Kiesnicki badly burned, standing at the foot of the driveway, Beebe said.

The aggravated arson charge carries a five- to 10-year prison sentence, but Kiensicki’s mental status could play a significant part in how the case unfolds, the report said.
