Women Caught Returning Heroin, Needles To A Friend: Hopatcong Police

HOPATCONG, NJ — A woman found with heroin and needles told police she was just returning them to a friend-- but the bath salts they also found were hers, Hopatcong police said in a statement.

Officers were alerted to a woman slumped over behind the wheel in a Quick Chek parking lot just after 2 p.m. on May 6. Officers found a burnt glass stem pipe, a pen barrel with a burnt tip, burnt tin foil and syringes on the seats and floor of the car.

The woman, Samantha Poller, 26, of Hopatcong, said she was waiting for her friend. Police found heroin, catahinones (known as bath salts) in Poller's wallet and car.

Poller allegedly told police the bath salts were hers, but the heroin, needles and pipes belong to a friend, and she was trying to return them.

"You should not be in possession of illegal drugs in order to give them back to a friend," Hopatcong police warned in a Facebook post.

She was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of catahinone, possession of a hypodermic syringe, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, parking an unregistered vehicle and possession of controlled dangerous substances in a vehicle

She was brought to the Sussex County jail based on her public safety assessment score.
