Thirteen women recently graduated from Project Self-Sufficiency’s Summer Office Skills program, an eight-week employment skills training program which features lessons in computer skills, job search methods, and interview techniques, along with on-the-job training at a community work site. Graduates are poised to seek entry-level office administrative positions. The graduating class included Susan Addiss, Belinda Akalamon, Joanne Cicala, Ana Concepcion, Amanda D'Amico, Donna Kaufman, Catherine Nix, Susan Pastore, Donna Rasteid, Rosa Santiago, Aura Scheker, Cheryl Skellenger, and Rita Warde.

A more expansive version of the employment skills training program, the Huber Higher Opportunities for Women (HHOW), will be launching in October. Women who take part in the agency’s HHOW program can expect 80 hours of computer skills training, including instruction in Microsoft Word, Excel and other applications. The HHOW program also includes 40 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours at an unpaid externship at a community employment site, which further prepares participants to successfully venture into the job market. Coursework focuses on workplace navigation, life skills training, resume preparation, and interviewing strategies.

Interested participants are encouraged to attend an Open House to learn more about the Huber Higher Opportunities for Women program. Open Houses are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 15th and Tuesday, September 27th, or at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12th and Tuesday, September 20th.
