The Hopatcong school district's proposed $35 million budget, which was defeated by 34 votes, caused quite a stir in the borough.

On Wednesday, the borough council will decide whether it wants to reduce the $35 million proposal at 6 p.m. at borough hall. The Board of Education must accept the council's dollar amount, but not its recommendations on where to make the cuts.
