Brownie Troop 295 along with their leaders, Allyson Donato-Jernigan & Angela Ruocco, teamed up with the International Rescue Committee (www.rescue.org), which is an organization that responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. The girls from Brownie Troop 295 collected over 100 gently used backpacks and lunchboxes. Everyone knows that girl scouts sell cookies, but did you know that they also take a portion of their proceeds, and do a good deed with it . . . well, Alexa Colon, Jessi Dworkin, Caitlin Foley, Sophia Jernigan, Erin Kessler, Gianna Ruocco, Abigail Smith, and Tiffany Suarez, took their portion of the cookie money and bought pencil cases and stuffed each backpack. In August, the girls went to their headquarters located in Elizabeth, NJ, and delivered the backpacks and lunchboxes to the families of refugees who come here with only the clothes on their backs. It was a very heartwarming experience for Brownie Troop 295, because they were able to meet the children and teens who actually received the items they worked so hard collecting. Way to come to the “RESCUE!”
