Georgian Court Clinic Offers Free Behavior Change Workshops

Lakewood, N.J., February 20, 2016 — Parents can explore specific techniques to help youngsters with autism during upcoming workshops hosted by Georgian Court University’s Applied Behavior Analysis Clinic. The classes include:

“Identifying Effective Rewards,” Thursday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Reducing Selective Eating and Food Refusal,” Tuesday, March 22, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Understanding Challenging Behavior,” Thursday, April 14, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The three-part series is led by faculty members David Wilson, Ph.D., an assistant professor of psychology, and Christopher Perrin, Ph.D., also an assistant professor of psychology. Both are Board Certified Behavior Analysts-Doctoral (BCBA-D) and each has more than 15 years of experience providing ABA services to children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

“These sessions are designed to educate parents on Applied Behavior Analysis and the behavior change techniques used by behavior analysts,” said Dr. Wilson. “Parents who attend will not only learn how to evaluate the quality of ABA services, but will also learn skills that they can apply as part of a home program. “

Dr. Wilson and Dr. Perrin are the co-directors of the recently opened clinic, which works to help families in search of affordable services for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a condition that requires considerable time and effort on behalf of parents struggling to access high-quality services.

Both professors Board Certified Behavior Analysts-Doctoral (BCBA-D) with more than 15 years of experience providing ABA services to children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Under the supervision of Drs. Wilson and Perrin, graduate students in Georgian Court’s applied behavior analysis graduate program also spend time at the clinic using a variety of evidence-based strategies to address skill deficits and reduce challenging behaviors.
