Howell Man Charged With DWI After Pickup Gets Stuck On Broken Utility Pole

The crash knocked down a transformer, cutting power to area homes; Nicholas Eosso II, who was charged, was not injured

A Howell man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after his pickup truck crashed into a utility pole in Manchester, knocking it down and then got stuck on the pole early Friday morning, police said.

Nicholas Eosso II, 34, of South Westfield Road, Howell, has been charged with driving while intoxicated in the accident, which knocked out power to surrounding homes and forced the road to be closed, said Capt. Lisa Parker of the Manchester Township Police Department.

Eosso was not injured in the accident, she said.

Beacon Street in the Pine Lake Park section is closed between Commonwealth Boulevard and Route 571, and homes in the area are without power as a result of the accident, Parker said.

Police were called to Beacon Street in the Pine Lake Park section about 12:30 a.m. for a report of a vehicle into a pole. Patrolmen Matthew Walaszek, Michael Guarino and Michael O’Hara responded and found a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck with its back tire stuck on the utility pole, whch had been broken in two, Parker said. There were wires and an electrical transformer on the ground as a result of the crash.

Eosso, the driver, was the only person in the car, and was removed from the car by Walaszek, and found to be under the influence of alcohol and charged, she said.

Repairs to the utility pole are ongoing. Jersey Central Power and Light is estimating power will be restored to the area about noon, Parker said.

The Manchester Fire Department and Manchester First Aid Squad responded to the scene to assist along with JCP&L and their oil spill response company.
