Kruizers Honored For Service to Community

Organization holds car shows while giving back to the township in different ways

Over the past few years a tradition of summer in Howell has been a classic car show held in the parking lot on Route 9. The group responsible for that show is the Blue Moon Kruizers, and on Tuesday night they were recognized by the township council for their contributions to the community.

Not only do the Kruizers give area residents the chance to see cars dating back several decades, but their work also helps to raise money for local organizations including the Howell Food Pantry. According to their website, the Kruizers raised more than $1800 for the pantry during their fifth annual Wheels For Meals Car Show back in June.

During the presentation of the proclamation, Mayor Robert Walsh credited the group with helping the community despite the fact that many of the members are not Howell residents. He also credited them for giving the people of the township something to do with their Saturday nights where they get to see cars they might not otherwise be exposed to.

John LeBrio, a member of the group thanked the mayor for recognizing the Kruizers who have become an important part of the town despite only being in existence for six years. LeBrio said the club has helped to raise more than $25 thousand, with that money going to not only the food pantry but also the senior center.

LeBrio said for a group of volunteers, their efforts have been beneficial to those they are trying to help. "It's been a good six years and its been very successful right now," he said. "We'll continue to collect donations and food for the people of Howell because we don't want to see anyone go without any food on their table."
