Jersey Hills Wood Carvers - 30 Year Celebration

The Jersey Hills Wood Carvers (JHWC) will be celebrating their 30 years anniversary with an outdoor picnic at the pavilion at Cozy Lake in Jefferson Township on April 27th.

The Jersey Hills Wood Carvers club, located in beautiful northwestern New Jersey, is a small but growing diverse group of men, women, and girls and boys sharing together their time, knowledge and joy of woodcarving. We have members who represent all skill levels and we enjoy helping each other. Some of our members have been featured in woodcarving magazines and in woodcarving events throughout the East Coast. The club's objective, above all, is to promote interest in and appreciation of the art of wood carving to all.

JHWC has always been community oriented. Together, we carved a large totem pole for a local Boy Scout Camp, we give instructional programs to local scout groups, provide displays in local libraries, and we have a great outreach program that provides woodcarving magazines to local libraries. We display and demonstrate the fun of woodcarving in several venues in our area, including a "hands on" booth at NJ State Fair.

Many thanks to Jefferson Township and the Jefferson High School for allowing the club to meet at the high school woodshop and at the Jefferson Public Library during the summer. Our club meetings are held on the first and third Thursday evening of each month that school is in session. Aside from our regular get-togethers we also enjoy having occasional carving specialists who come to share their expertise with us. We have a small library of woodcarving books and a few carving tools available for loan to members.

Membership is "free" and open to anyone interested in wood carving regardless of their ability. The "hands-on" setting of our meetings allows members and visitors the opportunity for practice and guidance, so please come in and visit us at one of our upcoming meetings and see some of the great projects the club members are working on.
