Campaign Duty? Christie's Wife Leaving Job To Travel With Gov

New Jersey's First Lady told reporters Monday she resigned to spend time with kids, travel around NJ and 'elsewhere' with governor.

Less than one week after her resignation as a hedge fund manager was made public, Mary Pat Christie said Monday she did so to spend more time with family, including extra travel with her husband, Governor Chris Christie.

New Jersey’s first lady told reporters at an event she wanted to spend more time with her two youngest children, ages 14 and 11, and to travel with her husband “around the state and elsewhere,” according to the Associated Press.

When asked if her husband was going to run for President, Mary Pat Christie said she didn’t know, the report said.

Mary Pat Christie resigned her $475,000 position from hedge fund Angelo, Gordon & Co., with her last day on April 24.

Governor Christie told Jimmy Fallon last week he would make his announcement to run or not in May or June, just days before his wife’s resignation was made public by the governor’s spokesperson.

A politico.com poll recently showed the majority of New Jersey residents believe that if Christie had any knowledge or support of the Fort Lee traffic jam in September 2013, dubbed as BridgeGate, that he should leave office immediately. Some 29-percent in that same poll said he should leave office and be prosecuted.

A recent report also showed Christie’s out-of-state travel to campaign has cost New Jersey taxpayers half a million dollars.

What do you think of Mary Pat Christie’s statements? Is this just one more step toward a presidential run for the Christie family?
