The Jefferson High School field hockey team is having a tough week. On Monday they took their 5-0 record to High Point for a showdown with the only other undefeated team in their league and lost 4-0.
On Tuesday they hosted a Vernon team that has lost only once in eight games this season to, you guessed it, High Point. In a battle for second place in the league, the Falcons came out on the short end of a 1-0 battle against the Vikings.
IN SHORT The game was evenly matched with both teams dominating on offense as many times as they did on defense. The first half ended scoreless.

More than halfway through the second half Vernon turned up the pressure on offense and muscled in the winning goal. Jefferson controlled the ball for the last three minutes of the game but could not get the ball into the net.
FALCON OF THE GAME Lexi Taveras, goalie—Taveras made eight saves in Tuesday’s game, three times putting her body in the dirt. In the first half, Taveras was faced with a one-on-one with a Vernon offensive player but did a full body dive to her left to stop the shot.

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES Lauren Ferguson—The senior captain had a stellar second half with three shots on goal.
Lauren Monaco—Her stick skill and passing created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game.
