Get Your Laugh On in Newton, 'Tales About Dogs' at the Library

Your daily planner for Jefferson Township

Here's what you need to know for Friday.

Looking for something fun and educational to do with you toddler? The Jefferson Township Library presents "Woof and Wag Tales About Dogs." It's a story time for kids age three and older that revolves around adventures involving tail-wagging canines, likely anthropomorphic. Following the readings, there will be time for arts and crafts activities. Your wee one will have a blast—and get reinforcement for the idea that reading and the arts are for cool people. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to noon at the library, 1031 Weldon Ave. in Oak Ridge. For info, call 973-208-6244.

We could all use a laugh nowadays. Find big time funny straight from New York City in nearby Newton at The Big Apple Comedy Club. In this Friday's installment of the periodic yuk-yuk series, you'll see a face-off of sorts: Boston laffmeisters Jimmy Dunn and PJ Thibodeau against New York comics Jimmy Failla and Kevin Downey Jr.  Showtime is at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and $25; get 'em here. The event is staged at the Newton Theater at 234 Spring Street in Newton.
