Internet Safety at the Library, JTHS 40th Reunion, Scout Award Deadline

Here's what you need to know for Friday.
- Want to use the Internet more safely and effectively? The Jefferson Township Library presents "Surfing, Shopping and Beyond," a course that teaches a variety of skills such as how to navigate through shopping sites and knowing what to look for to ensure your privacy and security. You will also learn about online communities, message boards and chat rooms, as well as advanced email techniques like creating your own stationery and sending photographs and documents to friends and relatives. The class kicks off this Friday and runs each week through Friday, Nov. 8 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. For registration and price info, contact the library at 973-208-6244. The library is located at 1031 Weldon Road in Oak Ridge.
- Friday is the nomination deadline for those interested in the Scout Scholar Athlete Awards. The Patriots' Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America is looking for young men and women who work to achieve academic success while practicing healthy living for the prize. Scouts in grades 10-12 or their first year of college and who had an average high school grade point average of 3.0 are eligible to be nomintated by teachers, coaches, scoutmasters or fellow scouts. Interested scouts must be in 10th-12th grade or college freshman and have an average GPA of 3.0 thoughout their high school career. - The Jefferson Township High School Class of 1973 40th Reunion will be held Friday night. Classmates will gather at Casa Bianca on Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson from 7-11 p.m. The cost of $50 per person includes a buffet dinner, cash bar and DJ—plus you get the added benefit of seeing how your old pals look all grown up. - Newton First Presbyterian Church in Newton holds a Used Book Sale to benefit the church and literacy throughout Sussex County. Among the stacks will be a diverse array of books, including best sellers, coffee table books, children's readers, DVDs and audiobooks. The sale takes place all day Friday at the church, 54 High St. in Newton.
