Jefferson Rotary Seeks to Help Military Families with 'Virtual Baby Showers'

At its Sept. 19 meeting, the Jefferson Township Rotary Club took steps toward making its hope to help active military personnel who are expectant parents a reality, AIM Jefferson reported.

The civic group held a discussion with Keith Butler, acting commandant of the Lt. Corporal Robert J. Slattery Detachment of the U.S. Marine Corps about its "Virtual Baby Shower" effort. Butler's group created the program after holding a baby item donation campaign for nine pregnant military wives at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Md. Now the group sends bay items to families of soldiers in the U.S. and Iraq. Hearing about the program led the Jefferson Rotary to reach out to the Slattery Detachment in the hopes of getting involved, the article said.

Rotary agreed to begin a collection of baby items—primarily for newborns—for the wives of men now serving or wounded in the line of duty. To donate or get more information, contact club Secretary Christine Murray at 973-663-2704 and ask for Christine Murray.
