Dr. William Librera, a principal of West Hudson Associates, is the Jefferson Township Board of Education’s choice to help find a new superintendent of schools. Librera has had a lengthy career in education, highlighted by four years as the New Jersey Commissioner of Education. He is currently a research professor of education at Rutgers University. He has also spent 20 years as a superintendent of schools in Morris County.
Librera said he keeps the searches he does with West Hudson to 10-15 per year.
“I do that by design,” he said. “I don’t want to get larger and have to delegate functions to other people who are not closely aligned to education. And I’m proud to say that we’ve never had to reopen a search once we’ve completed one, although we offer that option if the need arises.”

Librera said that he has a large network of contacts that he uses to help find viable candidates for superintendent positions.
“We recruit through networks we have,” he said. We call people that we know and ask them to give us names. Then we talk to those people about whether or not they’d be interested in a particular position. It’s important for us to be on a rapid learning curve.”
