Lives to be Saved From Organs of Morris Boy Who Died in Boating Accident

GoFundMe page set up for Mt. Arlington family who lost 10-year-old in tragic incident Wednesday.

From immense tragedy will come life-saving triumph.

On Wednesday afternoon, Christopher D’Amico, Jr., died after he fell overboard in Lake Hopatcong and was subsequently struck by a pontoon boat operated by his father.

But the D’Amico family made the decision to help others after their son was pronounced dead at Morristown Medical Center, donating his organs to help those in need.

According to his mother’s public Facebook page, D’Amico’s mom, Lauren, said Thursday morning:

“Our son. Our hero. Thank you.

Christopher’s gifts...his heart valves will save up to 5 children live..his humerus bone will save a 7 year old girl dying of cancer in south Jersey...his eyes will help 2 blind children see...”

Also on Thursday morning a GoFundMe page was established in D’Amico’s name. A goal of $10,000 was established, and as of 11:15 a.m., $8,160 had poured in from 103 donors in just four hours.

A Facebook post from Chris D’Amico, Sr. embedded into the fundraising page said:

“We lost a piece of our hearts today… On behalf of myself, my wife Laura and our daughter Vianna we would like to thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. Please think of us in the coming weeks as we try to wrap our heads around this overwhelming tragedy. He was our “Buddy” and my best friend. I have no words at this time….but again… thank you! Christopher was one of a kind!! A true, sweet, gentleman.. he loved animals..and had the utmost respect and love for everyone he met!!! He leaves this world like he lived in it…a hero… his organs were donated to save 8 young childrens lives…were proud of him.. We love you Christopher… R.I.P.”
