Prosecutor: Arson Charge for Morris County Man After Cops Rescue His Mom From Burning Home
John Maulbeck, Jr. of Flanders is being held on $30,000 bail, authorities report.

A Morris County man has been arrested and charged with arson for allegedly lighting his parents’ home ablaze, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.
John Maulbeck, Jr., 23, of Flanders, was arrested and charged with third-degree arson for allegedly setting fire to his home on Route 206 Tuesday night, Knapp said.
Two off-duty New Jersey State Troopers finishing their shift at Netcong’s barracks that night saw smoke coming from the home and rushed over to help. Troopers Adam Gonzalez and Justin Storie, along with Mt. Olive Police Officer George Jadue, entered the home and led Josephine Maulbeck, 51, out of the house, which was overtaken by smoke.

The fire originated in the home’s attached garage, Knapp said. Josephine Maulbeck was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries and later released.
Previous Patch reports showed Maulbeck, Jr. was arrested in December 2011 in Morristown for possession of 72 ecstasy pills.

John Maulbeck, Jr. was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 bail with a 10-percent option.
