Prosecutor: Dad Lied About Sons Seeing Dying Grandfather Before Kidnapping Them

Emotional press conference Monday reveals excuse made by Kristopher Dohm before he took sons out of New Jersey.

Fighting through tears and even stopping to regain her composure, Sandy Dohm told a room of reporters Monday that she loved and missed her sons, Parker and Jaxon, ages 8 and 7, more than a month after they went missing.

According to njherald.com, Kristopher Dohm told his ex-wife Sandy Dohm he would be taking their sons to Nevada to say goodbye to his dying father.

The story, however, was untrue.

A video of the press conference shows Sussex County Prosecutor Francis Koch explaining that Kristopher Dohm told Sandy Dohm he would need a few more days with the boys beyond their one-week custody agreement to visit their ailing grandfather in Nevada.

That excuse, however, was “fraudulent,” Koch said.

When the boys were not returned to their Landing, Morris County home on Feb. 9, Sandy Dohm contacted police in Hopatcong, where Kristopher Dohm lives, and reported her children missing.

The last time Sandy Dohm spoke with her sons was Feb. 5.

The couple had a week on, week off custody agreement since their divorce in 2012, Sandy Dohm said.

A national search has been underway ever since, Koch said during the press conference, and authorities fear that Kristopher Dohm, a Type 1 Diabetic, may not be receiving the proper insulin needed to properly function. Parker Dohm is also asthmatic.

Koch said he doesn’t believe Kristopher Dohm would harm his children, and Sandy Dohm said the boys have a good relationship with their father.

Police believe Dohm’s license plate may have been changed, and could be using either K15DXS, ZKL24F, or S17CKV. Police have also said all three may have altered their appearances by shaving their heads.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Kristopher Dohm. The first is a New Jersey state arrest warrant for interference with custody, the other a federal arrest warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
