Snow Days: One Down, Five to Go

Snow days are coming, time to update your contact numbers in 'Instant Alert' system.

Jefferson Township students are afforded six snow days for the year, and one has already been checked off on Halloween, Mon. Oct. 31.

"We've built in a contingency plan if we end up using all of the snow days," said Dr. Kathaleen Fuchs, Jefferson Township Superintendent of Schools.

She said since spring break is scheduled for April 6 - 13, if the number of snow days exceeds six, they will begin grabbing the days from spring break.

Since more snow days are just around the corner, Fuchs said parents should take this opportunity to update their contact numbers on the school's 'Instant Alert' system which notifies parents about school closings as well as other important notifications.

"Because we had so many trees down, in addition to letting parents know about closings, we were also able to use it to tell them that the students should walk to the end of the block because some of the streets were not accessible to our school busses," said Fuchs.

The Instant Alert system allows parents to store landline and cell phone numbers.

If they cannot access their phones or phone messages for some reason, they can visit the Jefferson Township (BOE) Web site or look to the local television and radio stations for school closings.
