VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FIRST AID SQUAD

Do you know who provides your First Aid Services in Jefferson Township? Did you know that the people providing emergency first aid services to the citizens of Jefferson are 100% volunteer? Did you know that these people are your friends, neighbors, employers, or coworkers? Jefferson Township relies on its volunteers to provide this important service for the community.

When you call 911 at 2 am in the middle of a snow storm, we are woken up by our pagers and head to our building on Milton Road. We meet our fellow crew members and travel to the call where we provide the best professional first aid possible. Both the Milton First Aid Squad and Jefferson Rescue Squad are all trained professionals using the best equipment available. Every one of our dedicated members puts their own lives, families, personal interests,  and schedules aside to help a person in need no matter what time of day or night, no matter what the weather,  or type of situation they have.

Our members all start off learning basic first aid skills including as CPR and AED training. New members then take the Emergency Responder course, and  CEVO Training (Coaching Emergency Vehicle Operations). From there we offer the opportunity for you to further your training and become NJ Certified EMT's (Emergency Medical Technicians). But our training does not stop there. We all train every month at our drills in order to keep our skills up to date and learn new techniques. We also have to renew our certifications at state mandated intervals.

Milton First Aid not only provides emergency services for the MiIton Section of town, but we also provide classes for the public. They range from basic CPR and AED training, basic first aid, babysitting classes, scouting merit badge classes, Pet First Aid, and Emergency Responder. They are available to the public at a nominal cost to cover materials.

Milton First Aid Squad offers a cadet program for High School students that are looking to volunteer and help others. The cadets work with the members of both squads in providing our emergency services. They train and learn the same skills as our adult members. Working with teenagers also helps the older members feel young again!

Milton First Aid Squad was formed in 1957 and has provided emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Milton First Aid started off with one ambulance and a few members. Today we have three ambulances and many more members. The Squad members are very busy with many requests for help. During 2012, the Squad answered 744 emergency medical calls and 140 fire calls with JTFD #1. We  also provided medical services at 52 Community Service Activities such as high school football, band competitions, wrestling matches, National Night Out, and Jefferson Day. The familiar red and white ambulances traveled over 23, 393 miles last year.

Unfortunately, with today's economy and increased demands for training, our teams of volunteers have become fewer. As Uncle Sam said many years ago, "WE WANT YOU" Are you looking to explore a new path in life? Do you want to volunteer to help someone in need? Do you want to join a group of people that have the same goals as you? Do you have a few extra hours a week that you would like to use helping others? Then we are the group for you. We will provide training and teach you the skills you need to have to be part of the emergency services.

We are in need of new members to help  provide Jefferson Township with Volunteers Emergency Medical Services. We are turning to you to help.  If you want to help your neighbors and friends in need, please contact us at 973-697-2197. Please leave a message and we will get back to you promptly.

The Milton First Aid Squad will be offering several different classes this fall. Classes will be Pet first Aid, Babysitting and  Community CPR. In the fall, we will be offering an Emergency Responder course for anyone who is able to join us. Please check our website www.miltonfirstaidsquad.org for class schedules and to sign up. And please consider joining the Milton First Aid Squad. We need you to help us help others!

Thank you,

Your Friends at the Milton First Aid Squad
