On a recent Sunday, Carolina Cano reportedly went jogging through a New Jersey park that's normally safe. The town even encourages it, creating trails for runners to jog on.

Cano never made it home. Hours later, she was pulled from the lake, prosecutors say.

Now, a week later, a suspect has been caught. And details have been revealed that are horrific: Cano was the victim of a brutal rape and drowning, left for dead in the Jersey City park after she was kidnapped, according to authorities.

The alleged murder happened on Sunday, March 24, shortly after 7:30 a.m., when the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible body found in Lincoln Park in Jersey City, according to the HCPO.

Hudson County Sheriff’s Officers found the body of a woman in the lake in Lincoln Park, and members of the Jersey City Fire Department assisted in recovering her body, according to the HCPO.

The woman, later identified as Cano, a Jersey City resident, was pronounced dead at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be homicidal violence, including strangulation and water submersion, and the manner of death to be a homicide.

NBC 4 reported that the woman worked as a nanny and lived in one of the homes near Lincoln Park. The woman told her roommate at 5:30 a.m. that Sunday morning, according to the report, that she was going out for a job. She never came home.

She was found wearing her sneakers when she was pulled from the lake, according to NBC 4.

Pix 11 reported the woman was last seen jogging around the lake that Sunday morning. She reportedly had to work on Sunday and that's why she was up early exercising.

Cano is originally from Peru and worked as a nanny for a family in Passaic County, according to NBC4. "She was a working woman, a good woman," her roommate told the station. "She didn’t bother anyone. She was a woman that was always with God, that’s how she lived. She was really a beautiful woman. She had a very beautiful heart."

Rios's apprehension came soon after an arrest was made in another well-publicized murder case involving a New Jersey woman who was killed after she was abducted, police say. Read more: The Wrong Car: Shocking Details Of Samantha Josephson's Alleged Murder
