Bayonne Schools Get 3rd Threat In 5 Days

Bayonne schools were dealing with their third threat in five days on Tuesday.

Bayonne schools were dealing with their third threat in the five days on Tuesday, this one coming on Twitter. Schools were open on Tuesday.

In a letter to parents, Interim Superintendent Michael Wanko said the threat came at 11:50 p.m. on Monday. The threat came after Bayonne schools shut down on Monday because of threats.

"I received information regarding another Twitter post stating, "nice, you evacuated. I got 4 more days to shoot up the school...," Wanko said to parents.

Wanko said he contacted police and the Board of Education. He said police and Hudson County Sheriff's Officers are stationed at every school on Tuesday, and additional administrators are in each building.

Wanko said police are actively investigating these posts. "With the esecuity measures we have got in place, the chief of police, Board of Education president and I are confident that our schools are safe and we will be on a normal schedule today," he said.

He asked the community to "please work with us during this difficult time."

"Our first priority is the safety of our students and staff, and we are working diligently to ensure a safe and welcoming environment," he said. "Again these types of postings cause anxiety and concern. However, our school personnel and police will be vigilant in keeping everyone safe."
