NJ Boy, 5, Hit By Car In Crosswalk Before Driver Flees Scene: Officials

The child suffered a broken leg after being hit in a crosswalk Tuesday night, according to police. The driver has not yet been found.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 5-year-old boy is recovering from a broken leg and multiple abrasions after being hit by a vehicle in Jersey City on Tuesday evening, according to police reports. As of Wednesday at 4 p.m., the vehicle's driver has not been identified.

The crash happened shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the intersection of Grove Street and Grand Street, according to a police report.

Multiple bystanders said a red vehicle was making a left-hand turn onto Grove Street, and struck the victim in the crosswalk. The driver then fled the scene of the accident, the witnesses told police.

First responders transported the boy to Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for a fractured leg, "and multiple abrasions from his head down to his legs," police wrote in a crash report.

Police spoke to residents in the area with surveillance cameras, and spoke to the manager at a local taqueria to obtain possible footage of the driver.
