Flood Statement Issued For Monday Morning In Hudson County: Here's Why

The NWS has issued a flood statement for Hudson County Monday morning with predictions of light rain, sleet, and snow this week.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood statement for Hudson County for 7-11 a.m. on Monday morning.

The NWS only expects "minor flooding," but the high tides on Monday — 9:32 a.m. high tide in the Hudson River and 10:05 a.m. for the Hackensack River Monday — will be the highest tides this week.

The NWS expected sleet and rain Sunday night and Monday morning, but little accumulation. They do predict some snow Monday as well as Wednesday, with little accumulation.

On Dec. 23, when Hoboken terminal flooded during high tide, at least a food of inundation had been predicted.

A "flood statement" is, according to the federal government, a "bulletin issued to provide updated information about flooding along main stem rivers, or important creeks."

The coastal flood statement for Hudson County says: "Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding."

They advise: Do not drive through flooded roadways.
