Jersey City Parade Marks Fire Department's 150th Anniversary
City officials, local firefighters and first responders from the tri-state area gathered Sunday to celebrate the JCFD, which began in 1871.

JERSEY CITY, NJ —On Sunday, local uniformed firefighters and first responders from around the tristate area gathered in Jersey City for a celebratory parade and ceremonies marking 150 years of professional fire services in the community.
According to historians, organized fire protection began in Jersey City on Sept. 21, 1829. The volunteer Jersey City Fire Department combined with the Hudson City and City of Bergen volunteer fire departments to officially form the professional career Jersey City Fire Department in 1871.
Today, the JCFD is the state's largest municipal fire department.

Sunday's parade began at Dickinson High School, traveled along Newark Avenue, south on Jersey Avenue and to a reviewing stand situated south of Grand Street.
Jersey City dignitaries in attendance included: Mayor Steve Fulop, Public Safety Director James Shay and Jersey City Fire Department Chief Steven McGill.
