Jersey City Police Officer Convicted Of Theft
Denzel Suitt, 28, a police officer with the Jersey City Police Department, was found guilty of stealing cash from a man in a patrol stop.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Denzel Suitt, 28, a police officer with the Jersey City Police Department, was convicted Thursday of official misconduct and theft by unlawful taking, after he was accused of stealing cash from a Jersey City man on March 25, 2018. This happened while Officer Suitt was on-duty and on-patrol, said the office of Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
The jury delivered the guilty verdict Thursday, following a one-week trial.
He was found guilty of theft in the fourth degree, and official misconduct.

Between the hours of 12:40 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2018, while in uniform and on-duty, Suitt stopped the victim on Bayside Terrace and knowingly took cash from the victim’s wallet, said the prosecutor. He took an unknown amount, under $500.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit for their work on the investigation.
