Man Arrested For Downtown Jersey City Sexual Assault: Prosecutor

A man has been charged for a Jersey City sexual assault.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A man has been charged in a downtown Jersey City sexual assault that took place late last month, prosecutors said.

Richard Murphy, 35, was arrested by a SWAT Team and members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday at Jersey City Medical Center, said prosecutors.

He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, assault, and burglary, prosecutors said.

Murphy has a criminal history, records show, including a 2021 arrest in connection with the burglary of a home owned by rapper "50 Cent."

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on July 26, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a sexual assault on Sussex Street, prosecutors said.

A woman said that an unknown man had physically and sexually assaulted her as she entered a residence.

She was treated for her injuries at Jersey City Medical Center.
