Arson Task Force Investigating Early-Morning High Rise Fire In Jersey City: Prosecutor

A man has died in an early-morning high rise fire in Jersey City, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are investigating a fatal fire that occurred Thursday morning at 4:50 a.m., they said.

Ramon Abello, 61, of Jersey City was found unresponsive inside a unit at 270 Marin Blvd. after emergency responders were called there around 4:50 a.m., said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. They found smoke coming from the unit when they got to the scene.

Abello was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 6:45 a.m., prosecutors said.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department. Foul play is not suspected at this time, prosecutors said.
