The Japanese lifestyle brand will bring its minimalist clothing, home goods, and daily essentials to a highly accessible spot, as part of a broader Northeast expansion that also includes locations in Massachusetts and New York.
   

2. Driver busted weeks after Jersey City hit-and-run left man seriously injured (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A 31-year-old man was seriously injured in an early-morning July 5 hit-and-run at Ocean and Winfield avenues in Jersey City, and a Bayonne resident has now been charged. Prosecutors say investigators tied him to a Kia Soul that allegedly struck the pedestrian before fleeing. The driver faces multiple charges and has been released pending a court appearance.
   

3. Jersey City tax-hike battle intensifies as budget heads for last-minute changes (nj.com subscription) — Jersey City residents are staring down a proposed 15.5% property tax increase as city officials race to finalize last-minute budget changes. Mayor James Solomon blames inherited financial problems, while former Mayor Steven Fulop disputes an audit citing $94 million in unpaid costs. State aid from Gov. Mikie Sherrill may soften the blow as the City Council prepares to vote.
   

4. State Health Planning Board sets August 27 closure hearing for Heights hospital (hudsoncountyview.com) — Jersey City residents concerned about the Heights University Hospital shutdown can speak out at a state closure hearing on Thursday, August 27, from 5–7 p.m. at Hudson County Community College's Culinary Institute on Newkirk Street. Comments are limited to two minutes, but you can also submit written feedback by email or mail as officials review the controversial closure and ongoing legal fight.
   

5. Jersey City cannabis business' license in limbo over alleged poor working conditions (hudsoncountyview.com) — Jersey City's council has paused renewal of Downtown Flwr's cannabis dispensary license while officials review concerns about employee treatment and workplace conditions. The move follows an anonymous Reddit post describing alleged staffing, safety, and scheduling problems, even though the city's Cannabis Control Board recently backed renewal and reported no prior formal complaints. City officials and the company have not publicly detailed next steps.
