The Silent War: How America's Ruling Class Is Bleeding the Nation Dry

The numbers don’t lie. The people do—or, more accurately, the people in power do.

The federal debt, that neat $36 trillion figure trotted out in congressional hearings and White House press briefings, is a fiction. A carefully constructed mirage. The real number—the one that includes the promises made to every working American who paid into Social Security and Medicare—is $161 trillion.

That’s $974,000 for every taxpayer in this country, a debt so vast it can never be repaid under the current system. The Treasury knows it. The politicians know it. And yet, they keep lying.

Lisa McCormick isn’t buying it.

The progressive firebrand, long a thorn in the side of New Jersey’s political machine, is sounding the alarm on what she calls America’s “hidden class war”—a brutal, decades-long assault on working people waged by corporate aristocrats and enabled by politicians of both parties.

The evidence is everywhere, if you’re willing to look past the stock market highs and the CEO bonuses.

Nearly a quarter of Americans now have negative net worth. Wages have stagnated for generations while the cost of living spirals out of control.

And the richest 1%—the same class that funds every major campaign, Democrat and Republican—have vacuumed up more wealth than the bottom 50% combined.

“This isn’t an accident,” McCormick says. “It’s economic warfare.”

The battlefield is everywhere. In the hospitals where patients ration insulin. In the schools where teachers buy their own supplies. In the factories shuttered so some Wall Street hedge fund can flip the property for profit.

The weapons? Policy. Legislation. Tax codes written by lobbyists and rubber-stamped by congressmen who’ll land seven-figure lobbying jobs the moment they retire.

The casualties? Everyone who isn’t rich enough to buy their way out of the fight.

McCormick’s solution is as radical as it is simple: cap personal fortunes at $50 million.

Break up the monopolies. Make corporations pay what they owe. Use that money to erase the national debt without squeezing the working class.

Fund an improved and universal form of Medicare, put Social Security on a path to sustainability, and establish a national prosperity fund to rebuild the country from the ground up.

McCormick’s proposal is a modern-day “Share Our Wealth” plan—Huey Long’s New Deal on steroids—and it’s designed to do one thing: dismantle the oligarchy before it’s too late.

The opposition, of course, will be ferocious.

The billionaires won’t give up their golden thrones without a fight. The politicians they own will scream about socialism, about freedom, about the sanctity of the market—as if the market hasn’t been rigged for decades.

But McCormick isn’t waiting for permission.

“They’ve already declared war on us,” she says. “It’s time we fought back.”

The question isn’t whether America can afford to act. It’s whether it can afford not to. With the Doomsday Clock at 89 seconds to midnight and the middle class on life support, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The only question left is who’s willing to stand up—and who’s content to keep lying.
