Teacher Arrested For Allegedly Striking Female Student In Hudson County: Prosecutor
A teacher has been charged with assault after he allegedly struck a female student in the head while at their Hudson County high school.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A teacher at Bayonne High School has been arrested after allegedly striking a girl on school grounds with a closed hand, prosecutors said Monday.
Joseph Mingoia, 68, of Bayonne, has been charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors said that on Monday, Jan. 22, two students were involved in a fight on school property. "After multiple staff members intervened, Mingoia struck a female juvenile in the head with a closed hand," prosecutors said in a release. "Mingoia has been on administrative leave since the incident occurred."

This past Friday, March 1, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Mingoia at the Prosecutor's Office in Secaucus.
He has been released to await his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2024, prosecutors said.
Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit and the Bayonne Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
