Three Men Charged With Kiling Jersey City Man Whose Brother Was Also Murdered

Two of the three men charged with the murder of Scott Colclough in Jersey City were also charged with gang criminality.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Three men were charged this week with the murder of a Jersey City man in 2020, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said. The man's brother had been murdered near their childhood home in Jersey City in 2016, also as part of ongoing gang warfare, NJ.com reported.

Two of the men who were charged in the latest murder have also been charged with "gang criminality."

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit charged all three men in connection with the fatal shooting of Scott Colclough on June 20, 2020, as well as non-fatal shootings of four other people that night.

Colclough, 34, was shot near Martin Luther King Drive and Ocean Avenue.

NJ.com reported that the latest shootings occurred as part of ongoing gang retaliation. Various news stories over decades detail the retaliation of neighborhood gangs in Jersey City.

The Charges

Lamont Wiggins, age 25, Sheldon Mays, age 23 and Jermaine Jennings, age 22 are all charged
with first-degree murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault, and weapons charges.

All three face additional charges for criminal activity between May 2020 and August
2020.

Wiggins and Mays have also been charged with gang criminality.

Jennings is charged with possession of a weapon (community gun) for an unlawful purpose. (A "community gun" is used by two or more people for crimes.)

He was also charged with use of a juvenile in the theft of an automobile, corruption of public resources, and another weapons charge.

Wiggins and Mays are currently in custody at the Hudson County Correctional Facility on
unrelated charges. Jennings is currently in custody at McKean Federal Correctional Institute in
Pennsylvania on unrelated charges.

The three defendants were indicted by a grand jury on Thursday, June 29.

On June 20, 2020, at approximately 12:20 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department
responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Union Street between Martin Luther King Drive
and Ocean Avenue in Jersey City. Upon arrival, responding officers found multiple shooting
victims.

One of the men, later identified as Scott Colclough, 34, of Jersey City, was found with multiple
gunshot wounds. Colclough was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City
Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:37 a.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Gunshot Wounds and the Manner of Death to be Homicide. Four other victims were found in the area with various gunshot wounds.

The individuals were all taken by EMS to Jersey City Medical Center where they received
treatment for their injuries.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey
City Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely
accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
