Woman Charged In Hudson County Hit-And-Run Had Suspended License: Prosecutors

A woman was charged with driving with a suspended license after seriously injuring a Hudson County man in a hit-and-run, prosecutors say.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A Newark woman has been charged driving with a suspended license in connection with a Hudson County hit-and-run that seriously injured a 76-year-old man, prosecutors said.

Sonia Salazar, 63, has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, as well as endangering an injured victim and causing serious injury while driving on a revoked/suspended license, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Thursday, June 6, and released pending her first court appearance, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said that shortly after 7 a.m., on May 30, 2024, the Kearny Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Kearny Avenue and Columbia Avenue.

Police found a man, later identified as a 76-year-old Kearny resident, with serious injuries. He was taken by Emergency Medical Services
to University Hospital in Newark for treatment, prosecutors said.

Salazar's first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, June 20, prosecutors said.
