Areas Of Greenwood Forest To Again Close For The Summer

Parts of the Wildlife Management Area in Lacey, Manchester and Barnegat will close due to frequent off-roading, state officials said.

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — Portions of the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area will again be closed this summer due to unauthorized activities that create an unsafe environment, the Department of Environmental Protection said.

The parts that will be closed from May 25 through Sept. 4 are in Manchester, Lacey and Barnegat.

The reason for closure is to protect public safety and natural resources, the DEP said.

Signs will be posted in these areas, and the closures will be enforced by New Jersey Conservation Police Officers.

"NJDEP Fish and Wildlife regrets having to close these areas and understands the frustration of law-abiding users of the Wildlife Management Area system and has worked hard to address these concerns and adapted this year's seasonal closures accordingly," the DEP said.

Portions of Cedar Lake WMA, Menantico Ponds WMA, Wildcat Ridge WMA and Winslow WMA will also close for the summer.
