Lacey Lidl Moves Grand Opening To Same Day As New ALDI's

LACEY, NJ — Is this the beginning of a rivalry? Lacey's new Lidl location pushed its opening day to 8 a.m. Sept. 10 — two days earlier than previously announced.

Lidl announced the grand-opening date change two days after ALDI announced it would open Sept. 10. Now both discount grocers are set to open the same morning in Lacey. Read more: Lacey's ALDI To Open Sept. 10: What To Expect On Day 1

The Lidl at 514 Route 9 will open at 8 a.m., following a 7:40 a.m. ribbon cutting. ALDI's ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 7:45 a.m at 300 N. Main St. If any officials are attending both ceremonies, the drive from Lidl to ALDI is two minutes, according to Google Maps.

Lidl confirmed that ALDI's opening date had something to do with the rescheduling.

"We heard the news, and we didn’t want the 10th to fall flat — now, we’ll make it a true party," said Chandler Ebeier of Lidl's public relations.

Lidl announced the Sept. 10 opening date in a Thursday press release. The grocer had announced Aug. 9 they would open Sept. 12. Read more: Lidl To Hold Lacey Grand Opening September 12

ALDI and Lidl are both holding giveaways for their first 100 customers. But now customers might have to decide which perks they'd rather get.

The first 100 Lidl customers will receive gift cards ranging from $5 to $100. ALDI's first 100 customers receive gift cards as part of ALDI's Golden Ticket giveaway.
