Lacey School Board Adopts Policy To Allow Voluntary Drug And Alcohol Screening For Middle School Students

Policy would apply to seventh and eighth grade students.

The Lacey Township Board of Education recently adopted a policy that creates a voluntary random drug-testing program for Lacey Middle School students, according to nj.com.

"I'm a supporter for any intervention to give another reason for kids to say 'no' and that can start at any age, especially with our young teens," the district's newly appointed Superintendent Craig Wigley said.

Seventh and eighth grade students who participate in the school district's interscholastic athletic programs or extracurricular programs can choose to participate in the random drug testing program. Their parents must sign a consent form that covers a 12-month period, according to the policy.
