A man was hospitalized Monday after his sailboat washed ashore oat Island Beach State Park, according to officials. Emergency crews helped the man after his boat ran aground on the sand, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, which runs the park.

Officials have not identified the boater or provided information on his condition as of Wednesday afternoon. The man left out of the Barnegat Inlet on Saturday and was taken to sea by the wind and current, said NJDEP spokesperson Larry Hajna.

Wind shifted to bring him back ashore on the ocean side of the park, Hajna said. State Park Service lifeguard EMTs evaluated him before taking him to Community Medical Center for further evaluation.
