'No-Knock' Ordinance Up For Consideration In Lacey
The Lacey Township Committee will discuss the potential for a "no-knock" ordinance at their next meeting.
LACEY, NJ — Sick of door-to-door salesman bothering you at home? A solution may be on the horizon. The Lacey Township Committee is set to discuss a "no-knock" ordinance at Thursday's meeting.
Such ordinances have grown in popularity in the past several years, with neighboring towns like Manchester, Berkeley and Toms River maintaining no-knock registries.
Residents have to apply to their municipality to be placed on the registry and are often given a sticker to place on their house to let solicitors know they aren't wanted.

However, there are exceptions. The First Amendment means that members of religious or charitable groups are still allowed to knock, as well as political canvassers.
The discussion is set for the caucus meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 10.

It's only a discussion, meaning formal action will likely not be taken at the meeting. If officials decide to take action, an ordinance will need to be drafted and introduced at a future meeting.
Lacey Township Committee meetings are held at the Lacey Township Municipal Building, 818 W. Lacey Road.
