325 Acres Burning As Lacey Wildfire Continues

The fire, which may have been started by a plane crash, was not contained at all as of Sunday afternoon.

LACEY, NJ — A small plane crash may have sparked a wildfire in Lacey, according to police and reports.

As of Sunday afternoon, the fire had reached 325 acres in size and was zero percent contained, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Twenty-five structures are threatened.

The plane crashed just before 2 a.m. in the area of Miller Air Park, according to 6abc News.

NBC Philadelphia reported that officials are still not sure if the crash and the fire are connected.

Multiple agencies are responding to the fire, including the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

As of 10 a.m. Sunday, Dover Road is closed from Lacey Road to Pinewald Keswick Road and Mule Road is closed from Lacey Road to Pinewald Keswick Road, police said. Police urge drivers to avoid these areas.

Further road closures will likely come throughout the day due to smoke conditions, Lacey police said.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office said that smoke can be smelled from Stafford to Lakewood.

Due to the fire, Popcorn Park Animal Refuge is closed Sunday, but they reported that all facilities and animals are safe.

No evacuations are required at this time.
