LACEY, NJ — For nearly 50 years, the Oyster Creek Power Plant provided jobs, energy and low taxes to the people of Lacey Township. Without the plant, what happens to the township's economy? A public meeting is set to discuss an economic development plan after the plant's closure.

Oyster Creek closed in 2018, but decommissioning is still ongoing. There are still many questions about the impact of losing the plant and what will happen with the site.

The meeting, set for Zoom on April 13 at 12 p.m., will discuss the transition to a new economy.

Lacey was awarded a US Economic Development Administration Public Works and Economic Adjustment, Nuclear Closure Communities grant, according to BRS, Inc., the company creating the new plan.

The new plan will "replace the high paying jobs, business tax receipts and corporate citizenship lost by Oyster Creek's premature closure which threatens the short and long-term economic and social wellbeing of the township," according to BRS, Inc. See more about the project here.
