Referendum In Store For Lacey Township School District

The purpose for the referendum is to replace aging HVAC systems in the district, new board president Skip Peters said.

LACEY, NJ — Expect an upcoming referendum on the ballot in Lacey for the school district, according to the Board of Education.

At the reorganization meeting, the new school board president, Harold "Skip" Peters, announced that he would be serving as chairman of a newly-formed "referendum ad hoc committee."

The primary purpose of the referendum is to replace aging HVAC systems in the district.

"We have air conditioners and HVAC systems throughout these buildings that are almost 40-years-old," Peters said. "They need to be replaced."

While there were no details about when a referendum would go up for vote or approximately how much money would be needed, Peters said that bringing the schools up-to-date was important to him. Air conditioning and the roofs are a "big concern," along with safety and security, Peters said.

"My concern right now is making the schools up-to-date, safer, newer, nicer and cleaner," Peters said.

At the meeting, new board member Dan Bell and incumbent Kim Klaus were sworn in. Klaus was selected to serve as vice president.
