Man Arrested In Lakewood Carjacking, Stabbing: Police

LAKEWOOD, NJ — One man has been arrested in a carjacking and stabbing that happened Sunday evening in Lakewood, police said Thursday morning.

Stanin M. Morgan, 25, of Neptune, was arrested Wednesday evening in Asbury Park, Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said. He has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and weapons violations, Staffordsmith said.

Staffordsmith said the ongoing investigation into the carjacking of Engel Paulino on East Spruce Street led to the identification of Morgan as one of three masked men who dragged Paulino out of his 2007 BMW.

Paulino, 24, suffered a large laceration on the side of his head and several stab wounds that were not life-threatening, Staffordsmith said. Paulino was taken to the hospital and was treated and released.

Officer Kevin Martin's investigation led to the recovery of Paulino's BMW late Monday afternoon in Neptune Township. The car was brought back to Ocean County, where the sheriff's department searched it for evidence. Information uncovered in the investigation led to a warrant for Morgan's arrest, and he was found by the Asbury Park Police Department's Street Crimes Unit.

Morgan is being held at the Ocean County Jail.

Staffordsmith said Lakewood police are grateful for the assistance of the sheriff's department, Neptune and Asbury Park police and the United States Marshal's Office.

"This case is still active and although charges have not been filed at the time of this release, we are hopeful that the remaining suspects will be apprehended in the near future," he said.
