Pedestrian Struck, Killed Near Route 70 In Lakewood

What police termed a very serious accident on Shorrock Street took the life of the pedestrian, officials said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A very serious motor vehicle accident on Shorrock Street has taken the life of the pedestrian who was hit, authorities said Tuesday night.

The Ocean County prosecutor's office confirmed late Tuesday night that the person was hit at the intersection of Shorrock Street and Route 70 about 5 p.m. Tuesday had died.

Lakewood Detective Sgt. Gregory Staffordsmith, in a news release about 5:30 p.m., called it a very serious accident and did not have further information at that time.

Shorrock Street, which runs along the border of two senior communities in Lakewood and the Lake Riviera section of Brick Township, was shut down for nearly four hours between Route 70 and Beaverson Boulevard, where Shorrock crosses into Brick Township.
