Major NJ Pharmaceutical Company Slashes Hundreds Of Jobs

The layoffs will roll out across seven separate dates through the end of 2026, according to the WARN filing.

Bristol Myers Squibb is planning to cut 247 jobs at its Lawrence Township campus, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the state in February.

The reductions will roll out in waves across seven separate dates — May 21, June 19, July 16, July 31, Oct. 23, Dec. 17 and Dec. 31 — stretching through the end of the year.

BMS maintains two facilities in Lawrenceville - its corporate headquarters and a campus housing R&D, product development, commercialization and supply operations. The WARN notice does not specify which facility or functions will be affected.

The cuts are the latest in a string of New Jersey workforce reductions at the pharmaceutical giant. In February 2025, two separate rounds of layoffs eliminated 290 positions in the state, followed by 516 more that May.

An additional 68 New Jersey employees were laid off in June 2025, with 282 more following in September — bringing the total to more than 1,400 New Jersey jobs shed since the start of last year.

"We remain focused on developing and delivering transformational medicines to patients around the world and continue to deliver on our long-term business strategy by aligning resources to best support our operating model and our portfolio evolution," a BMS spokesperson told Patch.

“Unfortunately, there were impacts to some of our employees as a result of these changes noted above. We are grateful for the contributions of our colleagues and a top priority for us is supporting employees throughout the transition process.”

The company said it was "driving operational excellence "and becoming agile and efficient as it positions itself for growth.

BMS said the latest WARN filing included some employees based in NJ, as well as some U.S. field employees not located in the state that technically report to the NJ sites.

The employees impacted by the notice have been previously informed and the effective dates listed on the WARN notice page reflect final dates of employment, the company said.
