Employees Sickened By Repellent At NJ Amazon Facility Head Home

All employees, including one who was in critical condition, were set to be released from the hospital on Thursday.

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ - All Amazon employees who were hospitalized after a can of bear repellent accidentally discharged on Wednesday were expected to go home on Thursday, according to an Amazon spokesperson.

This includes one person who was reportedly in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital Hamilton, Amazon spokesperson Rachael Lighty said.

A total of 24 employees at the Robbinsville warehouse were taken to five hospitals following the exposure Wednesday morning, Robbinsville spokesman John Nalbone said.

The employees were being treated for difficulty breathing and burning in their eyes and throat, according to officials.

The spray fell off a shelf on the south end of the third floor of the massive Robbinsville warehouse on New Canton Way at about 8:50 a.m. and accidentally dispersed, Nalbone said. The incident was confined to that area, and the building was not fully evacuated.

“The safety of our employees is always our top priority and a full investigation is already underway,” Lighty said. “We’d like to thank all of the first responders who helped with today’s incident.”
