Halloween 2022: Mercer County Sheriff Share Safety Tips For Residents
As you prepare to go on the hunt for some candy, Mercer County Sheriff shares some safety tips.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ – Happy Halloween, Mercer County! Whether your plans are for adults or kids, there’s plenty to consider before you don your costume and go hunting for some candy.
“Halloween night is almost here, so make it scary for all the right reasons,” Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler said. “Trick-or-treaters too often get overexcited and quickly forget about safety. Federal estimates are that children are much more likely to be struck by a motor vehicle on Halloween than on any other date of the year.”

- Watch out for trick-or-treaters running from house to house in the darkness.
- Stay on the sidewalks and cross at corners only.
- Kids should wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight, glow stick, or a reflective bag.
- Motorists should try to drive five to ten miles per hour under the speed limit in residential areas in the evening.
- Parents/guardians should supervise children who are out trick or treating.
